Teaching and learning are changing. New technologies are appearing at an astounding rate and opening up opportunities to more effectively create and share knowledge. A new generation of learners are demanding to be taught in radically different ways. There is an expectation that training will address the demands of economic growth, critical skill shortages and rapid changes in the workplace. And employers and individuals want greater choice and control over the time, place and content of training.

The Australian Flexible Learning Framework has summarised these challenges in a new PDF resource, which includes a range of case studies on organisations currently using e-learning in their training:

  • Continuing Education Bendigo (CEB), who trialled and successfully implemented an organisation-wide e-learning system which uses a cloud computing model and RSS feeds to collect all sources of computer-based information about a learner into a single area (a course/learner wiki).

  • The Sundowner Project, which uses digital stories to allow Indigenous night patrol learners to see and hear the experiences of others working in this field.
  • GippsTAFE, which has worked in a systematic way to build its e-learning knowledge and expertise in the areas of virtual worlds and social media.

  • The stainless steel fabrication industry, which uses an e-learning integrated workforce development strategy to turn modules from the Metal and Engineering Training Package into online content and uses facilitated learning to support apprentices.

A list of Framework e-learning products and resources is available in the brochure, as well as support services to help with your e-learning questions.
