Storing learner content in e-portfolios: Have your say Picture of a person next to a giant tick! Links to survey. Opens in a new window.

As e-portfolios become increasingly popular in vocational education and training (VET), registered training organisations (RTOs) are starting to think about which type of e-portfolio system would suit their organisational and learners’ needs.

Research has shown that learners are much more likely to use e-portfolios if they can access and use them independently of their learning or training organisation*. In this context, two important considerations for RTOs are storage capacity and format requirements for digital learner content. However, the needs and wants of learners need to be balanced with the needs of the RTO.

To help determine this balance, the Australian Flexible Learning Framework’s (Framework) E-portfolios business activity is calling for input into the development of the draft VET E-portfolios Storage of Learner Content Guidelines, to be released in early 2011.

Consultations will close at the end of October 2010, and the results will be released in a briefing paper prior to the development of the draft Guidelines.

This builds on previous work done by the Framework’s E-portfolios business activity and is one of the actions to achieve the key goal: Storage, as identified in the VET E-portfolio Roadmap, a national strategic planning document designed to support the diverse requirements for e-portfolios in VET.
